Screenwriting Tip #948
screenwritingtips: “Write what you know” doesn’t mean “write something that happened to you”. It means “tell us something true about yourself which you normally keep hidden”.

The Side Dish: Mad Men Season Four Highlights. ... →
thesidedish: There used to be a time where Mad Men was on television.  Even The Playboy Club and Pan Am now see like relics of a distant past, but fear not!  Mad Men is back.  Tonight may be the night, but do you remember what all happened in 1965?  Season four was a progressive one for Mad Men.  We saw all sorts of tonal shifts, a new pace, and a more emotionally-driven narrative than ever. ...

The Problem with Nice Weather
…is that I feel like every time I go outside, it’s an invitation to buy an ice cream or a smoothie or an iced coffee or an iced tea or anything with the word ‘iced’ in it merely because it’s weather’s way of saying “congrats! You’re entitled to this, whether you’re thirsty or not” and when it’s this nice out, all I can think of is...

Your Brain on Fiction - The New York Times →
“Stories stimulate the brain. Metaphors like “He had leathery hands” rouse the sensory cortex….The brain, it seems, does not make much of a distinction between reading about an experience and encountering it in real life…novels, stories and dramas can help us understand the complexities of social life.”

–  Brenda Chenowith, Six Feet Under Yes, yes, another Six Feet post.  Calling this show my comfort food may sound morbid, but among other reasons, it’s a show that teaches the importance of life and living happily.  There are endless moments of absolute authenticity, and amidst all the stress...
